Name: Bela Talbot Door: Door Pass Canon: Supernatural Canon Point: Jus in Bello (Season 3: Ep 12) Age: 24 Appearance: here and here History: here Personality: Positive: • Independent - "Never mind. I'll just do what I've always done and I'll deal with it myself." Bela's independence is a core trait of hers and one that can be tied with both her ambitious nature and drive. The tragedy of her childhood and subsequent death of her parents meant that Bela had to become independent in order to survive. While we don't learn about the deal she made with a demon until later in season 3, it makes sense why Bela preffered to do things by herself and not rely on anyone else for help. She also dislikes being in anyone's debt, paying the Winchesters $10,000 dollars for saving her life instead of simply thanking them. When we first meet her, it seems that Bela is a very successful professional thief, with clients who are willing to pay her millions of dollars for occult items. It would be possible to assume that she built up a solid reputation over a couple of years and is reaping the benefits of it. This is part of Bela's ambition and drive to maintain her wealthy lifestyle, but also to find something that would help her to get out of the demon deal. Bela is also very outspoken and isn't afraid to voice her opinion, even if it is cruel. Negative: • Deceitful - Bela is a thief and con-artist by trade. Sometimes, she would manipulate people into getting what she wants and doesn't care about how it would affect them. An example is when Bela pretends to be a woman called Alex and convinces an older woman named Gertrude that she has solved the murder of her niece - which is untrue. When this lie is uncovered by the Winchesters, Bela informs them that she cons old women by selling them charms and conducting seances so they can 'commune with their dead cats.' She lies to the Winchesters multiple times in season 3 and betrays their trust for her own personal gain. As part of her profession, Bela uses fake aliases and disguises herself to make sure she doesn't get caught by the authorities; it's eventually discovered that Bela isn't her real first name and she burnt off her fingertips so her prints couldn't be matched in any database. • Selfish - "So you're only out for yourself, huh? It's all about number one?" (Dean to Bela, 'Bad Day at Black Rock') Bela does have a tendency to be a selfish person and only look out for her own interests. She isn't above using others as a means to an end. One example is when she tricks the Winchesters into providing a cover for her so she can steal an occult object known as a 'Hand of Glory'. Another example is when the Winchesters ask for Bela's help in obtaining African dream root and she does bring it to them, exploiting the opportunity to steal the Colt (a supernatural being killing gun). After that, Bela sets the FBI on them to allow her time to escape and hand over the Colt to the demons who held her deal. Bela even assists someone who was after Sam when they had an item that was highly valuable in her line of work. • Condescending - An example of this trait is when Bela enters the building that the Winchesters are occupying while on a hunt. Needless to say, it's a bit rundown which prompts the folllowing reaction from her: "Dear God. Are you actually squatting?" Bela regularly trades barbs with the brothers (Dean moreso) and seems to delight in insulting his intelligence and having a low opinion of him - 'Interesting how the legend is so much more than the man' is a quote that comes to mind. She also doesn't approve of hunters, describing them as 'a stone's throw from being a serial killer'. Bela thinks the world can't be saved so what is the point in hunters trying to do that very thing. As she comes from a privileged background, Bela has always had wealth, and is used to a lavish lifestyle - one she's managed to maintain after her parents died and she inherited their money. This has given her a snobbish outlook on things and feeds into her condescending nature. Powers and Abilities: Bela has no powers but is skilled in the following- • Firearms • Seances/contacting the dead, use of a Ouija board • Picking locks, cracking safes and pickpocketing • Disguising herself/taking on another alias/identity Inventory: • Pistol • Box of ammunition • The Colt (It's a weapon which can kill supernatural beings, but I can nullify it in the game if she isn't allowed to have it as is.) Samples: • Network: (Please note, this is from a previous game I was in:) (video) [A pretty, green-eyed brunette with damp hair is looking into the camera and she doesn't look too happy.] If you're going to keep me here against my will, the least you could do is provide some better clothing, yeah? A nicer room wouldn't go amiss either. [Her tone is blunt, accent unmistakably English. You don't want to mess with this lady.] Suppose it would be impossible to get a decent drink. [A beat.] Or a hair dryer. On another note, whomever brought me here is paying for the removal of the tattoo on my arm. I'm not joking about that either. [The feed ends.] • Log/Prose: The French diplomat's gaze was too fixated on her chest to notice Bela's hand slipping into his pocket to retrieve the key card she needed to get into the vault and retrieve the cursed dagger she was after. The item itself was worth about two million dollars ( five million if you sold it on the black market) and Bela already had a client lined up to buy it. Everything had gone to plan so far and it seemed that this was going to be an easy job. When it was over, she was going to leave the diplomat's home, catch the next flight back to America and hand deliver the dagger to the buyer. A simple case of get it, then get out. Choosing a life of crime wasn't the path that Bela had set herself on when she was younger. If anything, she didn't have any real ambition beyond surviving the hell that her parents had put her through ever since she was a child. Her father was abusive and her mother chose to ignore it, deciding that drinking herself into a stupor was a far better use of her time rather than protecting her own daughter. When the opportunity presented itself to end the suffering, Bela seized it and her parents were gone, despite Bela not fully understanding the implications of the deal she made until much later. That was her first encounter with the world of the supernatural and it had piqued Bela's interest from then on. She began researching not long after that, finding out everything she could about demons, ghosts and whatever else existed in her world. Bela soon discovered the lore about supernatural items: some of them were ancient and cursed, others were more recent but had incredible value. What better way to throw off the shackles of her oppression by doing something spontaneous and profitable like stealing -or acquiring as she liked to call it now- rare items that could earn her a tidy income as well as bringing out a more confident side. After a few years of research and hands on experience, Bela had learned the tricks of the trade, becoming a master thief and con-artist. Charming her way into people's hearts then robbing them blind. Using her beauty and wit to fool people into trusting her. This was the person that she had become now. A façade yes, but it was something that Bela could hide behind without letting anyone know about the scared little girl who remained underneath. Bidding farewell to the diplomat, Bela turned on her heel and headed off towards the vault, head held high, her hips sashaying just a little. She had to give off a certain allure after all to convince people of the alias she had undertaken for the job: incredibly flirtatious and a bit of a bad girl. Not a far stretch from her normal persona but Bela was pretending to be an American this time around. In just a few short hours, Bela would be a few million dollars richer and back in her apartment in New York. Sipping the finest champagne to celebrate her victory. Forget about the deal hanging over her head and enjoy life to the fullest while she was still around to live it. Yes, it was definitely going to be a good couple of days for her when she returned home. Maybe she could share it with someone else, find a handsome stranger in a cocktail bar then take him home and show him a good time. Kick him out the next day and promise to call but never actually go through with it. That was how Bela lived and she wasn't going to change it. Living like that forced away any negative thoughts or feelings of emptiness. It helped Bela to forget about her anxiety, the fear she felt about dying within a few months. No. That simply wouldn't do. Life was for living with no regrets. It was the motto that Bela had stuck to for quite some time. • I'm also linking to my comment on the TDM as another sample. |
